Tonight, I passed by the preschool Bryson was attending and I was filled with mixed emotions. I feel horrible for putting him through that for so long. At the same time, it was a great opportunity for him, because we are finding out early what is going on. Bryson is a normal kid and we want so bad for him to be in preschool with the other kids, play with other kids normally, and not have such a hard time. Unfortunately, it is going to take some time. I see a long road ahead coming up with the therapy, the psychologist and so on.
For now, we know that Bryson definitely is performing significantly below his age level demonstrating delayed fine motor skill development. Bryson has a definite difference in how he is processing sensory information in the areas of auditory, vestibular(movement), touch, and oral-sensory. This means that he is under or under responsive to certain sensory input. This gave us many answers to why he acts out and behaves the way he does. He does not mean it, he is such a sweet little boy. I struggle everyday to get him bathed, dressed, teeth brushed. He hates it. He throws a fit. But, at the end of it all...he tells me thank you mommy, and sometimes he will tell me he is sorry. We tell him we love him all the time, no response from him. We know he loves us. I can't wait until the day he comes to me "out of the blue" and he tells me, " I love you mommy!" . I am sure Bryant feels the same way.
We are blessed to find out this much so far and know that we can move forward in a positive way to help him. And, like I said before, I always try to remind myself that this could be worse. It still hurts.
